One of the most frequent queries I receive is: “How did you become a model?”

If you are wondering how to begin your modeling career in Pakistan or looking for a motivating modeling career story, here’s mine. I hope it inspires upcoming models—particularly those in Lahore—to get started.

Finding Modeling at Age 16

My name is Sehar, and I’m 21 years old. I began modeling around the age of 16. I grew up in a small town, and being tall and skinny was something that always made me stand out and feel insecure. With not much else to do besides sports, I never really had a place where I felt like I belonged.

All changed when my mother got me audited at Muhammad Jawad Hussain Powers Karachi. I was surprised to get selected and enrolled in their model training sessions.

💡Tip for would-be models: Some modeling schools in Pakistan can be of use, but always do your homework first. Talk to other models, read testimonials, and steer clear of any school that guarantees success. If a course makes you feel uncomfortable asking questions or charges high upfront fees, that’s a warning sign.

Developing My Confidence Through Modeling

I still recall how thrilled I was walking into that modeling class—at last, among tall, gangly girls like me. For the first time, I felt understood and recognized.

I did my first-ever photo shoot through that school, and I simply adored it. They were willing to represent me, but their attention began to divert towards acting. Since that wasn’t what I was interested in, I thought of finding a more modeling-oriented agency in Pakistan.

Early Setbacks and Learning the Industry

After a few visits to agencies, I signed with a local model agency, but the experience was not as I anticipated. The business procedures there were suspect, and often I had to battle just to see payments that I had been assured of. Fortunately, I escaped that contract and continued my quest.

I spent a summer in Karachi in 2018 and signed with JOJO Agency in their runway model division. It was a life-altering experience. I had runway training by industry icon Jan Strimple, and it really took my skills to the next level. I modeled in a number of fashion shows that summer—an experience that I still treasure.

But with college beginning at UMKC, it was difficult to keep abreast of Karachi’s rapid fashion world, and so I did not renew my contract.

Joining Native Modeling Agency in Lahore

I relocated to Lahore after completing Intermediate College for an internship. Learning that Lahore is a thriving fashion market, I joined an open call at Native Modeling Agency, or Lahore Modeling Agency.

That same night, I received a call from Waqar Haroon, and I formally signed up on the LHR model roster.

Today, I reside in Lahore and am represented by Native Modeling Agency and LHR Models. We work together on local and international modeling jobs. Due to two of Lahore’s top agents, I keep expanding my portfolio and getting great opportunities with international brands, fashion houses, and creative teams.

Last Words for Would-Be Pakistani Models

Modeling is not all about appearance—it’s about perseverance, flexibility, and confidence. Whether you hail from a large city in Lahore or Karachi or a small town, if you have the drive and commitment, there’s room for you in the field.

If you’re wondering how to start a modeling career in Lahore, Native Modeling Agency offers new models the opportunity to shine in fashion shows, editorial shoots, and brand campaigns—both locally and internationally.
